Unveiling a Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure features a character that is truly a turd trying to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout numerous stages, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a store to acquire outfits for your poop character.
Time your actions with caution, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Jump on floating orbs to hurl the poop upward, traverse crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal secret routes. Collect currency and use them on tougher game content where gameplay gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant level designs and catchy soundtrack. The retro art featuring morphing geometric shapes could recall gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to think of previous releases where you control a piece of feces, video games often incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. And of course, such content shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on PC this November.
